Sunday 19th February, 2017

THE morning of 19th February was as cold as the previous. I woke up early at around five thirty. After packing my belongings I headed out to witness the spectacular Bundi sunrise for the last time. There was a palpable feeling of cool serenity as the refreshing morning air hit my face. For a long while I just stood there on the verandah to try to catch a hint of sunlight. As minutes passed, the clearing sky reflected the sunbeams dancing in the horizon. I tried as best I could to capture everything I could about those moments in my head.

Saturday 18th February, 2017
ON the cold Saturday morning of 18th February, most of us woke before six o’clock to catch the spectacular sunrise view in the east. From the eco-lodge, I had an opportunity to witness a magnificent golden view of the sunrise in the horizon overlooking the Ramu Valley. At the mountain ridge, I also had a chance to view the summit of Mt. Wilhelm jutting out of the crystal clear sky in the south and connecting to the Bismarck Range on the left leading down to the Ramu Valley in the eastern side. The magnificent view of Ramu in the distance also overlooks Bundi Station which comfortably sits at the edge of the Bismarck terrain, bordering Eastern Highlands on the other side of the blue mountain range.

OUT on the main road, the white ten-seater Toyota Land Cruiser animated the Ramu Highway as we sat thrilled with excitement to experience an adventure to a very remote part of the world in Papua New Guinea! To most of us, the humid afternoon of 17th February was a start of a new and exciting journey with an adventure to Snow Pass Eco-Lodge, located south-west of Madang town in the Usino-Bundi District of Madang povince.

We were a team of five academics from Divine Word University, all from the Tourism & Hospitality Management Department with a colleague from the Business Department. The tourism staff included our Head of Department Theresia Kau, Nathaline Murki, Allan Sumb and myself. The only staff representing the Business studies was Joseph Ogi. A Fourth Year DWU journalism student Gaile Kivali was our only media personnel representing Niugini Photograph. Emmanuel Koni was our one and only driver.

PNG Among Nat Geo's Top 21 World Travel Destinations

The PNGTPA is proud to announce that PNG has been selected as one of National Geographic Traveller’s 21 “Best of the World’s Destinations” for 2017.

The PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) is proud to announce that Papua New Guinea has been selected as one of National Geographic Traveller's 21 "Best of the World Destinations" for 2017.

The highly anticipated annual list was unveiled in the December 2016/January 2017 issue of the magazine and has gone on sale on newsstands globally since November 29 and is also online at NatGeoTravel.com/BestTrips2017

TPA chief Executive officer Mr Jerry Agus said National Geographic is the world’s top traveller’s magazine and for PNG to get its endorsement as one of the world’s best ‘must see’ destinations in 2017, was simply awesome.
